Henshaws Society for Blind People
provides expert care, advice and training to anyone affected by sight loss as well as individuals with other disabilities. They work to enable people to build the skills and independence they need, to achieve the future they want. The services they offer include a specialist further education college, local housing and support and courses and training.
The organisation recently identified a need for a bespoke, modern facility which provided an accessible and advanced media centre offering key vocational training to the students at Henshaws College. The facilities include an IT resource suite, recording studios and a specialist design and print area. The Foundation awarded a grant of £30,000 towards the building of this new, state of the art media and IT centre
Since its opening, the charity have reported that the new facilities are already making a huge difference to their students, giving them even more opportunities to take part in employability training in preparation for when they leave college. In addition to the specialist teaching areas, the Centre’s reception is also being used as a training area, where students can practice their administrative and customer service skills.
