My Sister's Place

My Sister’s Place delivers a range of services with a view to improving safety, access to justice and the health and well-being of women and their children in Middlesbrough. It works collaboratively with other statutory and voluntary providers.

In 2014, My Sister’s Place was awarded £40,000 towards the cost of expanding the delivery space of their domestic violence service by purchasing and refurbishing the building adjacent to their existing premises. The refurbishment created a training room, larger waiting area, a video link room to the courts as well as sufficient office space for employees and disability access for service users. Service users report that they feel more ‘relaxed’ and less ‘cramped’ since the expansion. One service user states that, ‘I feel as though I am worth listening too, that I am important [and] that the space reflects [that] the issue is being taken seriously and that feels good.’

In July 2015, My Sister’s Place won a Lloyds Bank Foundation Regional Award for ‘Championing Change’ and will now be considered alongside other charities for the national award. Furthermore, the expansion has made it possible for the charity to recently launch a networking event for local businesses to visit and learn more about the purpose of the charity and the services it offers. This is expected to improve corporate sponsorship.
