Staffordshire Women’s Aid
, set up in 1976, are a user-led organisation that provide specialist services for women and children living with, fleeing or recovering from the impact of domestic and sexual violence. Apart from refuge accommodation, they also provide a 24 hour helpline, various support services, training, research and awareness raising workshops.
Staffordshire Women’s Aid were awarded £28,000 in 2015 to support the refurbishment and furnishing of the women’s refuge centre. The centre opened in February 2016 and now has 12 self-contained apartments. Within the first week of opening all of the apartments were filled. The building provides a safe and therapeutic space for women and children feeling domestic violence. The project has also now been entered for a Housing Award!
