Ysgol Maes Hyfryd
is the only Specialist High School in Flintshire that supports young people aged 11-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties. Friends of Ysgol Maes Hyfryd passionately fundraise to ensure the pupils at the school have specialist equipment they need.
In 2017, The Clothworkers’ Foundation granted Friends of Ysgol Maes Hyfryd £10,000 towards play equipment for a sensory room, including a Superactive LED Bubble wall, Infinity Tunnel, Mirror Ball and interactive floor system. The therapy room is used by 24 students with complex needs and more students are expected to visit. The pupils get immediate enjoyment from interacting with the sensory equipment and the play also improves their general health and wellbeing.
All staff have now been trained to use the new equipment and Ysgol Maes Hyfryd have reported that this has had a huge impact on the children’s stimulation. The pupils now have access to an expanded range of sensory therapies.
The charity said:
“We all just wanted to thank you so much for giving us this grant which has enabled our children to have access to a greater variety of products to stimulate their senses.”
